What time should I arrive at the wedding?
Kindly arrive promptly at 5:30 pm, which is when the cocktail hour begins along with groom’s Tisch, followed by the Bedeken. Our chuppah wedding ceremony will begin at 6:30 pm.
What is a Tisch?
The Tisch takes place before the Jewish wedding ceremony and is a time for the groom and male friends and relatives to celebrate during the cocktail hour. The word "Tisch" is Yiddish for "table”. Guests will gather around a table to eat, drink, and sing. The Tisch is concluded by the signing of the Ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract. Aaron will then be escorted away to see Reese at the Bedeken ceremony.
What is a Bedeken?
This is the ritual veiling of the bride by the groom. The custom was inspired by the biblical story of Jacob, who mistakenly married Leah instead of Rachel, the woman he loved. This custom allows the groom to “check” that he will marry the right bride before veiling her. Aaron will lower Reese’s veil over her face as a special prayer is recited. It’s often the most emotional moment of a Jewish wedding, where the bride and groom see each other for a few minutes before the main ceremony begins under the chuppah.
Do I have to separate from my spouse during the cocktail hour?
No. Men and women do not have to separate during the cocktail hour. Everyone is welcome in the main space, where the Bedeken will take place at the end of the hour. However, only men may join the groom in the Tisch, if they choose to do so.
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
The cocktail hour and reception will be held indoors. The wedding ceremony will take place outdoors, weather permitting.
What time will the wedding end?
The reception will conclude at 11:30 pm. Guests are welcome to then dance some more at our on-site after party, which will conclude at 1:00 am.
